API (Application Programming Interface)
An Application Programming Interface (API) allows different software systems to communicate and exchange data. In e-commerce, it connects, for example, an online shop with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system or a marketplace.
Practical Example for SURS Customers
SURS uses an API to directly link a retailer's ERP system to the Swiss warehouse. As soon as an order is placed on the marketplace, it is automatically transmitted via API to the warehouse for immediate processing (pick & pack).
